Matt's Endoscopy

Matt had his endoscopy early this morning in San Diego. He has an ulcer at the end of his esophagus. He also has a large opening from his esophagus into his stomach which means he would have some acid reflux. Both would make eating uncomfortable. The doctor wrote Matt a prescription for prevacid. He'll take a tablet before breakfast and dinner. Matt will probably need to take this for a few years. At this time, he recommended we continue with the therapy to continue encouraging Matt with his eating since Matt has developed an oral aversion. He was a real trooper today. The procedure took less than 30 minutes! The doctors and nurses were all extremely nice and caring. Thanks Brandi for watching Ben for us. Thanks Sarah for your help in San Diego. What an exhausting day - we left Yuma at 4am!

The ulcer.
Another view of the ulcer - I think.

Matt's esophagus or stomach??? I can't remember.
This is looking back up Matt's esophagus from his stomach. Dr. Dohil said that his esophagus should fit around the camera tube. This is where the esophagus is large and the acid reflux happens.

Oh my goodness, poor little guy. No wonder he did not want to eat. As an adult, I had the same thing and can remember how painful it was - to this day (25 years later!)
