Castle Dome City Ghost Town

On our way to Las Vegas a few weeks ago, I noticed a sign for a ghost town. Ever since the rerun of 'The Brady Bunch' where some bad guys lock the Brady's in the jail of the old ghost town, I thought they were kind of interesting. On Sunday, we drove up to Castle Dome City (about 30 min.). As soon as I got out of the car, I heard "ssss" - flat tire! Dan, having changed a flat on the Jeep before, quickly changed the tire and we were on our way.

So Castle Dome City is a pretty old mining town. First they were mining silver and eventually lead.
At some points, the town resembled a junkyard.
This is looking down one of the mine shafts.
New miners in town!
A really old drill rig!
Another rail car.
There was one building where military vets and active duty could sign the wall.
Dan added his name.
The bank.
The safe. I wouldn't put my money in there!
The teller at the bank looks angry. Not sure why. We were having a great time. He was giving away money though.
The old John Deere.
Another view of the drill rig.
So we did make it to church on Sunday. Haha, Matt walks like Dan.
The stain glass windows in the church were very pretty.
The organ looks like the one at Papa and Mimi's house minus the top half.
Dan and I each rang the bell on our way out.
So we told Ben that this was the old jail.
He freaked out thinking we were going to put him in there. He hasn't even see "The Brady Bunch".
I'm thinking these guys are dead.
I don't think these were available at the Dining Out. This is the bar on the 1st floor of the Hotel.
Somebody lost their shoes. And their saddle.
Another bar.
We found lots of Hercules Powder.
Another bar. Bunch of drunks. The town wasn't that big.
So we were getting ready to leave, and Dan spotted another mine shaft. We decided to go check it out.
Dan went in first and was checking it out. I followed Dan. Ben was following me. I was getting ready to take my next picture and Ssssss! Dan yelled and turned around to push me out. I was holding Matt and Ben was behind me. I couldn't get Ben to move and I couldn't pick him up either, so I yelled for Dan to grab Ben as I went around him. Rattlesnakes give you the willies. I'll never forget that Sssss. I got to sleep with Ben last night... argh! I don't think we'll be going back in there anytime soon.
Looking out from the town.
I think this is looking towards the southwest. You can see some mountains in the distance.
A cactus. Ben thinks it looks like him. Who knows? Hopefully I get to sleep in my own bed tonight.
