Today...

We all got up early to drop Dan off at his squadron. We said our goodbyes and came home to wait to be told where to go for the flyover. Depending on the winds we would need to meet on either the north or south ends of the runway. I got an email at 9:20 saying head to the south end and be there at 9:45. We don't live close to the base but we made it.

Eight jets are flying over in two waves of four. A KC-10 (tanker) can only hold enough fuel to get four jets to Hawaii, so Dan was jet 4 of the second wave with second KC-10 - the last jet to takeoff. We got out there just in time to see four jets takeoff in formation, the KC-10 takeoff, and then one more Harrier. The Family Readiness Officer (FRO) told us that one of the KC-10s is not working today and the second wave will stay home to wait. Yea! Another day with Dan home!

Actually since we've been home, they've called to say the KC-10 won't be ready until Tuesday! The fifth Harrier was sent up just in case one of the first four needed to turn back. All four jets were doing fine, and the fifth jet returned home. There is also a hurricane passing between HI and here which could further delay them. The group leaving today was going to be in front of it. There is so much to coordinate and so much that can cause delays.

We'll keep you posted!
